1. What time do I need to be at the track?

6:45 AM because registration and tech open at 7:00 AM. This way, you should have time to unload your bike and proceed to registration and tech. We suggest you get through tech and registration as early as possible, so there will be no delays in getting to the mandatory riders meeting. We like to start the Rider's Meeting at 8:00 A.M. which can only happen if all riders arrive before 7:00 A.M.

2. What happens if I arrive at the track late?

You will have missed the riders meeting and not get to ride in the first riding rotation as you will not be able to receive a tech card until you attend the second riders meeting. It is important to be on time! You must know all of our safety procedures before being allowed onto the track. In the event half day sessions are available you cannot get a tech card until you have attended the afternoon riders safety meeting.

3. What should I bring?

As a minimum, bring chairs to sit on while other riders are on the track, hat, sun glasses, sunscreen, a cooler stocked with water, ice, something to snack on, lunch (or money for lunch), and energy-type drinks. We suggest you bring your own gas as you will run through more than a tank full, and gas at the track costs $8.00 per gallon. See #4 below for quantity and compatibility issues.

4. Should I bring my own gasoline?

Keep in mind that you're probably only going to get about 15 miles/gallon and, at 150 miles/day, you'll need about 10 gallons of fuel. Remember, leaded racing gas sometimes doesn't work with all management systems, especially ones with oxygen sensors. If you are not using racing gas, we recommend you bring your own gas can as racing fuel is $8.00 per gallon at the track and no other type of gas is available...unless you leave and come back.

5. Can I ride my bike to the track?

Yes you can; however, if you have a problem with the bike or it gets damaged, you might not be able to ride it home. This is why we highly recommend that you transport your bike to the track instead of riding it out and bring a friend. You should have a friend or friends there with you in the event they need to help you load a damaged bike or in the event you might get injured someone to get your stuff home. We STRONGLY ADVISE against riding your motorcycle to the track.

6. Can a friend come and watch?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage it so they can assist you if there are problems with you or your bike. Many riders enjoy having their own rooting section which can take pictures of you flying around the track. Be advised that Dogs are NOT allowed at California Speedway, and children under 14 are free, but are NOT allowed to operate or ride a motorized vehicle.

7. Do I need to bring food?

You could bring some energy snacks and lunch or money for lunch. Guests can purchase lunch through our catering service, as well. Again, we strongly encourage you to pack a cooler with water, ice, energy bars, and energy drinks.

8. What do I have to do to my bike?

Using painters or duct tape from a hardware store, you have to tape up your headlights, speedometer, taillights, turn signal lenses, mirrors, wheel weights and remove your license plate. In addition, you must pull the fuse for your headlight and taillight. No safety wiring or water wetter is required for FASTRACK RIDERS Track Days!

9. What do I have to wear?

  • You have to wear a full face helmet that is DOT and Snell approved. There are a few helmets that have not been Snell approved yet, but meet the British Standard test which is acceptable.
  • You must have proper motorcycle riding gloves.
  • You must have boots that, at the bare minimum, cover your ankles. No slip ons!
  • You must have either leathers or a nylon riding suit, both top and bottom. Suits must zip together all the way around at the waist to protect you better in the event of a fall. Unzipped suits could ride up and leave your body exposed. No half zipped suits will be allowed to be used. No exposed torso front or rear is acceptable.
  • FRA rents new Vanson Leathers for $80/day and Alpine Stars boots for $25/day, plus security deposit.

10. Who must attend the Novice Riders School?

If you have never attended another riding school, such as a Keith Code or Jason Pridmore riding class, we require that you attend our Novice Riders School. If you have never attended any type of track day event, it is mandatory that you go through the class! In the event you have gone to other track days, we will interview you to make sure you are experienced enough to skip the class. All card-carrying licensed racers do not have to attend our class.

In general, the class is all about safety and making sure you have a fun and safe day! Our experience has taught us if we are going to err, it will be on the side of safety. It is extremely different being on a track verses riding fast in a canyon, which we are trying to get you to quit doing anyway. We want you to learn the correct lines around the track, proper entrance and exit procedures, proper signaling, proper passing techniques, flag meanings, braking points, apexes, etc. We can show you the proper and fastest lines around the track quicker than you can learn them yourself.

The class gets the same amount of track time as any other group. If you are a fairly proficient rider, You can move up to Level II or Level III after you have completed all classroom sessions for the balance of the day. The student to instructor ratio is three students per instructor so each student receives a lot of one on one attention and personal feedback. Students have eight twenty minute sessions on the track riding in Level I with other Level I riders minus any lost time to mechanicals or crashes. In addition the students go out on the track at 8:05 AM for orientation laps so it is important any Novice Rider Student arrive early, unload their motorcycle and gear, go to registration immediately to sign in, receive a tech card, take their bike to tech and be ready to ride no later than 8:05 AM. Novice Rider Students will meet as a group close to the tech area unless told otherwise

11. Do I lose riding time because I am in the Novice Riders School?

No, you get the same amount of riding sessions as all other riders. In fact, you receive one additional session early in the morning for orientation laps so be registered, teched, and suited up ready to ride at 8:05 AM close to the tech area with your motorcycle.

12. What is the agenda for the Novice Riders School?

You are the first group out on the track, and you start off by doing a couple very slow laps following the instructors on the proper line. After a couple of laps, you will follow the proper exit procedure, re-stage, and re-enter the track. Then, two more laps, a proper exit, and a debriefing in the classroom. The first classroom session lasts approximately 30 minutes while other groups are riding. You will receive an outline of the class as well as track maps. You will suit up again and go out for a full twenty-minute session at a moderate pace till we sort out the various skill levels of all the riders in the class. Some riders will be waved past the instructors and can pick up the pace, some are monitored more closely. After that session, you return to the class for additional debriefing and information which may last approximately thirty minutes. When the rotation comes around for the school, you go back on the track for another twenty-minute session. After that, the rest of the day becomes more of a one-on-one process, with our instructors available to assist you. At your request, the instructor will either lead or follow you out on the track.

We like riders in the class to stage in the same area each time before going out on the track. We then break the class down by abilities so you won't have to ride faster than you are comfortable riding! Only three students per instructor. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR ALL STUDENTS TO BE ON TIME FOR ALL CLASSROOM AND ON THE TRACK EXPERIENCES. WE WILL START WITHOUT YOU AS THERE IS LITTLE EXTRA TIME TO BE HELD UP. BE AT PREGRID ON TIME!

13. Can I bump up to Level II or Level III if I attend the school?

Yes you can after completing all the classroom sessions which means the last three sessions of the day can be with another group if you are comfortable at those levels. NOT BEFORE!

14. How do I register or sign up at the track?

Go to the registration office which is marked. It is much faster if you preregister, plus it saves you the $50.00 post registration fee. If you have registered for more than one day, you still have to go to registration each day.

15. How do I pre-register?

In case you're reading a printed version of these FAQs, go to our web site www.fastrackriders.com, and just sign in through our On-Line registration button on the home page. It is to the right of your screen. It only take about one minute to register on line and you save the $50.00 Post Registration Fee. Also, many of our events are sell outs in advance of the event so if you do not pre register, there is a very good chance you will not get to ride

16. How do I get my bike teched?

You must first go to registration, sign in, and get a tech card. Take the tech card and your motorcycle to the tech area, and the inspector will take your card, inspect your bike, and put a sticker on your bike for the class you will be riding in. Each day the sticker colors change so each day you have to get your bike teched and inspected.

17. What else should I consider?

At Buttonwillow, Barber Motorsports Park, Las Vegas Motorsports Park, VIR, and Willow Springs we advise you to bring a pop-up canopy to protect yourself from the sun. California Speedway provides garages, so canopies are not necessary.

18. Should I bring tools?

Absolutely! You never know what might vibrate loose or come off your bike, so a basic tool kit is a good idea. You will need enough tools to possibly remove your wheels in the event you have to buy new tires. See #17 below for pressure recommendations.

19. Do you have tire vendors at your events?

Yes, we will have tire vendors at all FASTRACK RIDERS events. For track use, they suggest using a lower tire pressure than for street use. Please check with the tire vendors for proper inflation based upon conditions. It will almost always be lower than normal street recommended pressures.

20. Can we spend the night at the track?

Yes on Friday and Saturday night at California Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Willow Springs, and Buttonwillow Raceway. You must arrive before 8:00 PM at all facilities. Showers are available at California Speedway and Buttonwillow Raceway.

21. Can I change groups if I think I'm in a group that is too fast (or too slow) for me?

Yes, but you have to come back to tech and get a new sticker for the different riding group, and at our discretion do we allow you to change classes. This can only be done after the first two riding rotations are complete or not until 11:00 AM.

22. Can I ride a bike in two different sessions?

No, we no longer allow riders to ride in two different sessions. You must ride in the group you were registered to ride in.

23. Can I ride two different bikes in my level?

This option is available but must be approved at the track the day of the event. There is a $35 fee for the second bike. Several riders have abused this privlidge so we monitor these situations closely. There are penalties if a rider allows another rider to ride his second bike including they will be done for the day plus they have to pay an additional cost of the track day.

24. What happens if I forget my key to my motorcycle?

Unfortunately, it could be a bad day for you. New bikes are very difficult to "hot wire", so you probably won't get to ride your bike that day. We will give you credit for a future FASTRACK event minus a $100 processing fee.

25. What happens if I cannot make it to the event I signed up for because of some unexpected last minute change?

FASTRACK RIDERS ASSOCIATION CREDIT & RETURN POLICY

26. Do you run your events in the event of rain or inclement weather?

Yes, FASTRACK RIDERS maintains a "rain or shine" policy, meaning we run regardless of any weather conditions excluding snow or ice on the track. However, Fastrack Riders would never require riders to ride under unsafe conditions. Each rider must appear at the track unless otherwise notified by Fastrack or they will be treated as a "no show" and forfeit their payment to Fastrack.
Weather is about as easy to forecast as predicting which number and color will come up on the roulette wheel in Vegas.  It’s less than perfect science. A perfect example is Fastrack Riders a 3 day event at California Speedway in April.  On the original forecast it was going to be great all weekend, then it changed to some rain on Sunday but nice all the other days. On Friday it changed again to raining most of Saturday and the rest of the days it was suppose to be nice.  In the end, it was beautiful on Saturday, a little rain on Sunday morning though we got a later start, and Monday it was perfect.  Each day was a great day to ride and everyone had a great time and got all the track time they could stand. During the week before the event we received in the range of 200 calls wanting to cancel because of the pending rain or asking us our opinion on the pending rain.  Going forward as in the past, Fastrack Riders runs “rain or shine” like most other track day companies. If you are scheduled and do not show up you will forfeit all monies paid.

27. Is there an ATM at the track?

Unfortunately, no....so plan ahead and bring plenty of cash.

28. Do you have leathers or riding suits for rent?

We will have over twelve new Vanson leather riding suits in various sizes to chose from. They rent for $80 per day, and you must reserve them in advance. There is a refundable $300 deposit required in the event you damage the suit. You will be required to sign a separate waiver form, as well. We also rent boots at $25 per day.

29. Do you have motorcycles for rent?            No

30. Why is there a $50.00 post registration fee?

Because it costs so much more to process credit cards and information after the event is set up. The entire event from staff, food required, and riding rotation, is based upon our pre-registered riders.

31. Will there be a photographer at the track?

Yes! Pictures are usually taken during all of the morning sessions and are available for purchase in the afternoon and most of the time online after the event. We will be providing on-bike camcorder rentals by reservation as well, so call ahead if you'd like to have a session on tape. Pictures are done by PowerSports Photography who uses the latest state of the art camera equipment. Pictures are usually ready for sale after 2:00 PM. On board video equipment for rental is available at some of our track day events. Call to confirm if available or not.

32. What is the difference in the different riding groups?

  • Level I only allows passing on the straights at most tracks. Level I the straight away ends at the second set of cones. Level I and the Novice Riders School groups are on the track at the same time. The class rides along with the instructors. Some tracks allow some passing in Level I on certain corners on the outside.
  • Level II allows passing any place on the track provided it is on the outside only. Level II the straight away ends at the second set of cones. Please note how important it is for you to maintain your riding line at all times.
  • Level III allows passing any place on the track inside or outside.
  • Please observe a safe six foot passing distance when passing as a rule!

33. Why does FASTRACK RIDERS run three groups verses two like some of the other track days?

We run three groups; however, with over ten years' experience, we have learned it is safest to run three groups since we train or convert so many riders from the streets to the track. Many track day promoters only concern themselves about lap times, not safety, and do not offer classes to help riders make the transition from the street to the track. On an average FASTRACK RIDERS day, you will run between 135 to 165 miles, unless there are a lot of crashes which eat up track time.

34. Can I get individual training no matter what class I ride in?

Yes! We have an extremely talented group of pro and semi-pro riders available for either a full day at $550. We also offer a 3-Session 2-on-1 Training Program for $175/rider.

35. What happens if I crash?

If you crash you are done for they day! Why? Too many riders ride over their abilities and crash, this takes away from other riders riding time and endangers other riders so no matter what happened unless another rider caused you to crash, you are done for the day. It has been proven over 60% of the riders that are allowed to ride again, crash again the same day. Sorry but we cannot let one or two rides ruin everyone else’s day. No refunds, no credits!

36. Can I ride a cruiser-type bike at a FASTRACK RIDERS event?

Yes! We've had almost every type of bike ridden at one time or another over the years.

37. What do you recommend if I am a relatively new rider and not ready for the track?

We suggest you contact the Motorcycle Safety Foundation at 800-447-4700. They have different classes that can help any rider.

38. Do I have to be a racer or ride really fast to do track days?

No! Absolutely not! We want to help you improve your riding skills and make you a safer rider. You could ride in our Level I class as often as you like where speed is not the issue.

39. How fast do I have to ride or have to be?

Just stay within the speed range where you are most comfortable. Do not worry about being passed. It is the other riders' responsibility to pass you safely and cleanly. It is about riding safe and being safe, and the only way to do that is for you to ride within your limits and comfort zone. Yes, there will always be faster riders than you! Just maintain your line and let them get around you. Do not worry about holding anyone up, and never look behind when riding on the track. Always look ahead!

40. Can I ride without medical insurance?

Absolutely not! You will sign a form stating you have in force some form of healthcare insurance.

41. What are the Minimum-Experience Requirements for the Novice Riders School?

  • We will ask for your valid motorcycle operators license at the track.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age, or have a parent or guardian sign a waiver form
  • Minimum of 1 year riding experience
  • Minimum of 6000 miles riden on the street

42. FASTRACK RIDERS LIKE ALL TRACK DAY COMPANIES RUN THEIR EVENTS RAIN OR SHINE. YOU MUST ATTEND THE EVENT WITH YOUR GEAR AND MOTORCYCLE READY TO RIDE AS NO REFUNDS OR CARRY OVER CREDITS GIVEN IF YOU ARE A NO SHOW OUT OF FEAR FOR THE WEATHER. WE WILL CALL AND E MAIL YOU IF WE CANCEL AN EVENT DUE TO WEATHER IN ADVANCE OF THE EVENT SO PLEASE CHECK YOUR VOICE MAIL OR E MAILS BEFORE LEAVING FOR THE TRACK. If Fastrack Riders cancels the event every rider receives a carry over credit minus a $25.00 process fee!

43. What does the schedule for the day look like?

7:00 AM tech and registration is open

8:00 AM Riders meeting or Novice Riders Students go out on the track

9:00 AM and the top of every hour Level III is on the track for twenty minutes minus lost time

9:20 AM and twenty past the hour every hour Level II is on the track for twenty minutes minus lost time

9:40 AM and forty past the hour every hour Level I and Novice Rider Students are on the track for twenty minutes minus an lost time.

5:00 PM the track is no longer active and it is time to load up and go home.

All Novice Rider School Students must be registered, bike teched, with their riding gear and motorcycle dressed ready to ride near the tech area at 8:05 AM. It is the responsibility of all the students to go to the classroom immediately after each riding session.

44. What is different about Fastrack Riders than most other track day organizations?

1. We run very organized safe events because we have a paid trained staff with procedures and rules.

2. We run a full contingency of corner workers at all tracks. We make sure the entire track is covered by a corner worker by line of sight so in the event something happens we can notify all riders on the track through the flags. This is all about safety so until you need a corner worker, you might not appreciate the fact we always have the entire track covered by line of sight.

3. We always run two ALS ambulances at all events so in the event there is a transport, we still have the track covered with the second ambulance. It is rare, although it has happened that both ambulances have to be used. Most track days only use one ambulance so if there is a transport the track is shut down.

4. The entire Fastrack team is equipped with our own radios so there is good communication to quickly handle all situations whether it be in tech, pre grid, administration, start finish, fire safety, ambulances, Novice Riders School, or security.

5. Fastrack Riders carries it’s own insurance so if there is a problem, it does not become where you the rider is caught between the track owner and track day promoter.

6. Fastrack Riders stages events at more tracks than any other West Coast Track Day company giving you the rider the opportunity to experience riding on different types of tracks which improves your overall ability.

45. Does Fastrack Riders take a lunch break or when do I eat lunch?

Ans. Each rider eats lunch at their leisure. Fastrack does not take a lunch hour. We use five minutes from Level I and five minutes from Level III to take lunches and refreshments out to the corner workers. That is usually around noon.

Top of Page

46. What happens if it is my first time to a track and I have no idea how the track goes, what do I do?

Ans: Fastrack Riders always provides “Sighting Laps” for each group during their first session in the morning. We will enter the track and complete about a lap and a half and all riders will exit with the lead rider when they signal to exit. All riders will then be allowed back out on the track to complete their session. This way you will be familiar with how to get on and off the track and the general layout. You must be at pre grid at the appointed time for your group or you will miss the orientation laps.

47. What are the most important things I should remember other than being on time and paying attention to the clock?

Ans: 1. Cold tires! It takes a minimum of three laps to get the proper heat in the tires to get maximum traction.

2. Ride within your abilities! It’s okay to be slower than other riders. Never look back! Always focus on the track in front of you! There will always be faster riders.

3. Get to the track early, unload your bike and gear ASAP, go straight to registration and sign in, get your tech card and take the tech card and bike to tech. Once you have been teched either go to the mandatory riders meeting at 8:00 AM if you are not in the Novice Riders School. Novice Riders should be dressed ready to ride at 8:05 AM next to tech.

48. I am afraid of riding in a big group. I fear taking off in a large group and getting hit?
Ans: We limit group sizes based upon the size and configuration of the track so it should never be too crowded. In addition we do not let the entire group go at once. We usually only allow four riders to enter the track at a time leaving a big gap between each group of four so it’s not a mad dash by the entire group. This way it is safer for all and prevents the track from getting too jammed up.
